Rockstar has more Sony PSP goodness

Psp Game Download
Rockstar has had an interesting ride over the last year or so. From the Hot Coffee scandal to announcing their first next generation game was Table Tennis (Next gen PONG to some). Now some more interesting news has come to light in Rockstar's second-quarter financial report.

"Additional products planned for 2006 from Rockstar Games include Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories for the PSP, scheduled for October release, an additional PSP title based on another premier brand, and Bully."

Speculation as to what this unannounced title could be is already running rampant. Some are saying it will be a PSP version of their new Table Tennis franchise or maybe even a PSP version of Bully. Only time will tell.

Sony PSP Merchandise To be Sold Via Vending Machines

Psp Game Download
Look for Sony merchandise, including Sony Playstation Portable related merchandise, to be sold via vending machines at local malls in the United States. Sony merchandise ranging from "digital cameras, compact disc players, game software and movie DVDs" will be sold from the vending machines. The vending machines will make sales by accepting credit or debit cards, but not cash. Currently there are several placed at shopping malls in California, Georgia and Colorado, with the possibility of more appearing at airports. Maybe this is Sony's way of distributing its PSP UMD movies to recoup the losses at retail?

Sony PSP Shows Resourcefulness Of Kids">Sony PSP Shows Resourcefulness Of Kids

Some things never change. And one of those is the fact that kids love to keep secrets from adults. When you're a kid and everything seems to confuse you, it's nice to see parents powerless for a change.

It turns out that one such child, according to Channel 9 in Minneapolis, found out that his parents not only didn't have a clue, they bought him the hardware. We're talking about the Sony PSP.

He brought the portable gaming device to school and by the end of the day; he was grounded for a month and suspended from school for a while.

Mom and Pop thought the PSP was a harmless game- and it is. But leave it to kids to get sneaky.

His school's library had a Wi-Fi connection. And he used his PSP to log onto the Internet. And once he was on the Internet, you know what kind of sites young boys visit first. He found out how to do it from other kids using their PSPs to do the same thing.

Some parents might be clueless, but lots of other adults are finding ways to cash in on the technology. Channel 9 found numerous web sites that cater specifically to the PSP.

The FOX 9 Investigators tracked down the owners of one of these sites. Two 19-year old brothers run it.

Reporter: "Are you trying to target kids with this?"

Website Operator: "Not at all, because it's really hard to get money, or advertising if you have only kids coming to your site."

His target audience, he says, is the over 30 crowd that owns PSP's.

Reporter: "How do you know you don't have some kid who's 10, 12, 14 years old going on to your website?"

Website Operator: "We really don't know their ages, or their gender."

David Walsh/National Institute on Media and the Family: "We need to know how it works. We need to know the capability. We need to be clear with our kids ahead of time about what the ground rules are."

They're rethinking the policy that allows students to bring portable games for use outside of class time.

Jana Hennen-Burr/Elk River Schools: "We need to put some structures in place to keep things honest."

For starters, they want to make the school's wireless Internet connection a lot more secure.

Sony, the maker of the PSP, told us that parents should be responsible for monitoring the content their children are viewing. But Walsh says game makers have a responsibility too. They should let parents know that their product could give a kid easy access to that kind of material..

TVersity to Stream Internet Radio Stations to the Sony PSP

"The Sony PSP is an ideal device to benefit from the unique capabilities of TVersity," said Ronen Mizrahi, President of TVersity Inc., "Lacking a hard drive but supporting WiFi, the PSP is capable of accessing one's entire media library, and play live Internet feeds, only when paired with TVersity."

TVersity's media server is universal in the range of devices it can serve and in the types of media it can handle. By doing all the necessary conversions of media formats and streaming protocols on the fly, TVersity overcomes the inherent limitations of target devices thus allowing playback of any media on any device.

"With this release the TVersity Media Server becomes the first universal media server in the market, supporting many different types of networked devices," said Mr. Mizrahi, "Connected devices with multimedia capabilities typically have a web browser, or an RSS reader or they may implement the UPnP A/V or DLNA standards, TVersity is the only media server that can serve media to all of those devices."

TVersity is available now for free download at http://www.tversity.com

Mark/Space Introduces The Missing Sync for Sony PSP

"The PSP is an unbelievably cool device, capable of fulfilling multiple roles," said Brian Hall, Mark/Space president and CEO. "By leveraging the PSP's inherent strengths and providing Mac OS X integration, The Missing Sync for Sony PSP increases the usefulness of the PSP in many ways that are both useful and exciting. Never before has a device presented personal information, such as calendars and contacts, in as fun a way as we've made possible with the PSP. Our customers will be taking their PSP more places than ever."

Extending the PSP's Capabilities

All of the features present in The Missing Sync for Sony PSP either increase the functionality or the fun-factor of the device. For example, the PSP does not provide applications for storing contacts or calendar information. The Missing Sync solves this problem by gathering data from Mac OS X's Address Book and iCal apps -- or any applications that employ Apple's Sync Services technology in Mac OS X "Tiger" -- and making it viewable in the PSP's Web Browser. Memos from the bundled Mark/Space Notebook application are also downloaded to the device, putting useful information at its owner's fingertip.

The start page for all of this information is then bookmarked, providing quick access from the PSP's Web Browser application. This capability gives the PSP an electronic organizer-like capability, making it far more than just a multimedia game device. Mark/Space takes this feature one step further by providing interesting themes for presenting information on the device, allowing the user to personalize the experience to suit their own tastes. Themes range from simple, colored themes to more complex, photo-realistic themes with gorgeous background images.

WebSnacks?

The Missing Sync for Sony PSP introduces a feature that downloads web content for offline viewing. Called WebSnacks, this feature downloads web pages, blogs and RSS feeds to the PSP's Memory Stick and bookmarks them for convenient offline viewing. Settings are provided for how deep to scan and how often to refresh downloaded content. WebSnacks provides access to favorite web pages, allowing the user to stay informed or keep entertained even when Wi-Fi Internet access isn't available, such as on a commuter train or in the movie theater before the show.

Video Encoding

The Missing Sync for Sony PSP includes video encoding capabilities for viewing movie previews, viral videos, home movies and other video content on the PSP. Dragging videos to the application tells The Missing Sync to prepare them for the PSP. The encoding methods provide native Intel and PowerPC support, so the user will enjoy the best possible encoding performance from their Mac. Quality and aspect ratio settings allow control over the process. The Missing Sync for Sony PSP does not provide video extraction from DVDs.

Photos, Tunes and Podcasts

Complete integration with iPhoto and iTunes allows photos, music and podcasts to be downloaded to the PSP. The user simply checks which albums and playlists they want copied to the PSP, and The Missing Sync does the rest. The software is smart enough not to download protected iTunes Music Store songs that cannot be played on the device.

Mark/Space Notebook

Mark/Space Notebook, a new standalone application for notes and memos is included for free with The Missing Sync for Sony PSP. In addition to supporting text and graphics notes syncing to the PSP via The Missing Sync, Mark/Space Notebook supports Spotlight searching and synchronization across multiple Macs via Apple's .Mac service.

Additional Features

The Missing Sync also provides complete Memory Stick backup and restore capabilities, with multiple restore points for added safety. There's a Game Backup plugin that protects the user's time investment in game playing by allowing them to restore specific game states to the device. The Folder Sync plugin enables a sort of digital briefcase capability, syncing the contents of selected folders back and forth between the Mac and the PSP. The Missing Sync even keeps track of multiple Memory Sticks independently, allowing the user to store different content on each. To learn more about The Missing Sync for Sony PSP, please visit www.markspace.com.

Pricing and Availability

The Missing Sync for Sony PSP is available immediately for $29.95 as an electronic download from the Mark/Space Online Store (http://store.markspace.com). A single installer provides a Universal application that supports both Intel and PowerPC Macs in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Japanese language support will be available by the end of June.

Sony PSP - The Perfect Partner for LocationFree TV (30/5/2006)

European launch of Sony LocationFree(tm) TV makes remote TV viewing on PSP an exciting reality

The latest upgrade to the PSP system software, launched on 2nd May, prepares PSP to act as a receiver for LocationFree(tm) TV, the exciting innovation in remote TV viewing launched by Sony in Europe in May.

The heart of LocationFree TV is the LocationFree Base Station. This compact unit has two connections for AV equipment such as a DVD/HDD recorder. The Base Station can be plugged directly into an existing home network or it can establish a wireless link to a PSP(tm) system (software version 2.70), typically over a 100-foot range.

The initial Base Station setup is extremely straightforward and requires minimal intervention. Then, once the LocationFree Player software is installed on the PSP by downloading thelatest system software update (version 2.70), users can be free from the constraints of a lifetime within minutes.

Releasing TV from the living room is only the start. With LocationFree and a broadband internet connection, it's a simple matter to watch TV and control a STB or HDD recorder from your PSP, anywhere on earth with network or wireless access. The process of using the Base Station over the Internet D termed NetAV D is as simple as connecting up within the house. Whether holidaymaker, business traveller or ex-pat, LocationFree with NetAV provides a direct connection to home. And with the World Cup only months away, there's potentially more at stake than missing an episode of a favourite soap.

Not that there's any need to miss anything with LocationFree. At home, you can indulge in late-night viewing on a PSP from the comfort of your own bed. It's almost as easy to access the Base Station from a hotel while abroad, pick a channel, and watch some live TV. When you know you'll be busy, you can switch from the STB input to the DVD/HDD recorder and program it to record anything you don't want to miss. Next time you visit the Base Station, the recorded content will be waiting for you. If a DVD player is connected, so long as the right disc is in the drive, you can even watch your own movie rather than live or recorded TV. In fact watching the big match on a notebook from the wireless hotspot in an airport departure lounge is only the start of it.

In the home, the Base Station uses proprietary Sony technology including an optimised antenna and custom software to ensure the best possible wireless performance. Moreover, you can also hook your home video camera up to the Base Station for a great way to see friends and relatives abroad or even to monitor home security while you're away.

When the Base Station is accessed remotely over the Internet, further key technologies come into play. First, a free Dynamic DNS (Domain Name Server) service ensures that periodic changes to a user's global IP never prevent connection to the Base Station. This facility is effectively invisible to the user, but plays an important behind-the-scenes role in the overall ease of setup of NetAV. Once the connection is established, user privacy is ensured by a combination of security measures. Industry-standard Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) encryption is bolstered by WiFi Protected Access (WPA), which improves on the authentication and encryption offered by WEP.

One of the revolutionary technologies of the Base Station is the Automatic Bit Rate Control technology. The Base Station monitors the band width of the broadband connection and automatically optimises the Bitrate of the AV stream.

LocationFree TV will be available in UK, France, Germany, Belgium and Netherlands from this month, with other European countries joining later this year.

Together with a wide range of free content to enhance the entertainment value of your PSP, the latest firmware upgrade can be downloaded directly to the PSP browser via WiFi and is available now.

Sony PSP's Hot Pxl Creative Mind Djon

'[Hot Pxl] will be able to see which games you are good at and which games you suck at and be able to create custom playlists based on that,' said Djon. Playing in 'Theatre Mode' will let you play through different levels of difficulty of a particular game you like, while playing in 'Story Mode' will let you play through all the games randomly. Multiplayer gaming will be supported, where you can send extra handicaps to an opponent you are playing with. The game has been optimized on the Sony PSP to avoid loading time. Some un-lockable items you can get from the mini games are Djon's exclusive video podcasts, from his site 'StreetSmartCoolCat'.

Djon's site, StreetSmartCoolCat, broadcasts 'video dopcasts', video blogs about street culture, its globalization and digital lifestyle. He'll teach you the basics of deejaying, how to make a custom skateboard with a PSP holder (named 'Sexy Rosa'), how to do some skateboarding tricks and how to create a hip-hop beat. 'Street culture is the basis of the new youth culture,' stated Djon, 'Its game-reality.'

Hot Pxl is coming to the Sony PSP in the holiday 2006 season. Check out the latest on Hot Pxl at the official site here.
